I have a design i want to put on the top of the box that is made of frosted plexiglass (i dont want to see clear through it) and have blue LEDs inside so the design is a nice blue glow. BUT im not sure how to cut into the MDF to make the plexiglass flush with the surface, i was going to use a solid 24"x24" sheet and place it over my design cutout and glue it to the wood. Geo . How to Replace the Muffler on a Ford ExplorerThe Ford Explorer is a popular sports utility vehicle with an advanced exhaust system that guarantees maximum performance each time you drive it. The muffler on the Ford Explorer will usually need replaced if it becomes rusted, obtains holes or breaks, or completely falls off the vehicle. It is not very difficult to replace the muffler on the Ford Explorer. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need New or used muffler Old blanket or a large piece of cardboard Wrench Sledge hammer Trash bag Step by Step : 1 Look under the back side of the Ford Explorer to check the muffler for cracks, holes or other breaks. If they are present, you will need to replace the muffler. If there are no holes, breaks or cracks, the muffler is probably not in need of replacement. 2 Purchase a new or used muffler for a Ford Explorer. Make sure the muffler corresponds to the same year as your vehicle. A new muffler is best, but one can sometimes find a good used muffler from a junk yard. The Ford Explorer has a muffler that has a 2.25-inch inlet and outlet diameter, a 4-inch X 9.75-inch X 13-inch case, and a 19-inch over all case length. 3 Place an old blanket or a large piece of cardboard on the ground beneath the rear part of the Ford Explorer. This will permit you to replace the muffler comfortably without lying on the actual ground. 4 Remove the old muffler from the vehicle. Loosen all the bolts that are on top of the muffler strap. Next, pull on the vertical section of the cross member to remove it from the strap and the SUV's exhaust mounting block. Take off the muffler. If the muffler is welded on, then you can break it away by knocking it with a sledge hammer. Dispose of the old muffler properly by breaking it down into small parts and put the small parts into a trash bag. 5 Install the new muffler on your Ford Explorer. Line the muffler straight with the clamps and then tighten the bolts with a wrench to hold it in place. The bolts should not be too tight. The muffler should be able to move slightly to prevent damage. 6 Start the engine and listen for any loud banging or growling sounds. If there are sounds, you may need to tighten the bolts more or it might not be over the exhaust pipe properly. Check the muffler visually to see if there are any leaks. If there are leaks, you didn't install it properly. Tips & Warnings Write down the mileage and date of the muffler change and keep this information with the muffler warranty. You may need it for future reference if the muffler breaks or malfunctions. ResourcesBuy new mufflers for the Ford Explorer here.
Geo . How to Replace the Muffler on a Ford F-SeriesThe Ford F-Series is a full size pick-up truck that has been around for more than five decades. It has been one of the best selling trucks in America for 25 years. It is a reliable truck that also has a reliable muffler and exhaust system. However, there are times when you need to replace the muffler. Thankfully, Replacing a muffler on a Ford F-Series is not very difficult. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Muffler Large piece of cardboard or an old blanket Penetrating lubricant Wrench Sledge hammer Hacksaw Trash bag Step by Step : 1 Check to see if you need a new muffler on your Ford F-Series pickup truck by looking under the truck towards the back end. Check to see if there are any small or large holes or cracks in the muffler to determine if it has fallen off partially or completely. 2 Purchase a new or used muffler for a Ford S-Series. It should have a 3-inch inlet and a 2.5-inch outlet. A new muffler is best, however, you may be able to find a good muffler for a Ford F-Series from a junk yard. Make sure the muffler corresponds to the same year as your vehicle. 3 Place an old blanket or a large piece of cardboard on the ground beneath the rear part of the truck on the ground. You can also put the rear part of the truck onto jacks if desired. Make sure the vehicle is completely secure and will not roll away or fall. 4 Look over the old muffler checking it to see if it is bolted on or welded on. If it is bolted on, spray the fasteners generously with a penetrating lubricant before you loosen them. The penetrating lubricant will help you to remove the screws and bolts with ease. 5 Remove the old muffler. Loosen any remaining bolts with a crescent wrench and take the muffler off. If the muffler is welded on, then you can break it away by knocking it with a sledge hammer or sawing it off with a hacksaw. Dispose of the old muffler properly by breaking it down into small parts. Put the small parts in a trash bag and throw away. 6 Replace the new muffler on your Ford F-Series pickup truck. Line it up as straight as possible with the clamps and then tighten the bolts to hold the muffler in place. The bolts should not be too tight because the muffler needs to be able to move slightly to prevent damage to the muffler or to the truck. Hang the muffler with the muffler hangers that come with the muffler. If there are no muffler hangers, you will have to purchase them separately. Do not put the muffler on too loosely or it may fall off. 7 Start the truck's engine and check the muffler for any leaks or loud sounds. If there are leaks or loud sounds, then you may need to tighten the clamps more. If this does not fix the loud sounds or leaks, the new muffler may be defective. *An easy way to see whether your car is idling evenly is to place a stiff piece of paper against the end of the tailpipe while the car is idling (with the emergency brake on, please). Doing so amplifies the sound and enables you to hear the rhythm. A misfiring cylinder comes through as a pumping or puffing sound. An even but rough idle is a clue that it's time to retune your carburetor — especially the idle mixture and idle speed screws. Chapter 13 has instructions for doing this job. If your car sounds like a jet plane or makes some other loud, abnor mal sound, a hole in the muffler is probably the cause. Replace it immediately: Traffic cops hate noisy mufflers, and carbon monoxide hates people! Chapter 20: Troubleshooting Leaks, Squeaks, Smells, and Strange Sensations A O C If the horn is stuck, your vehicle is producing what may be the worst noise it can make. Before this happens, have someone honk your horn until you can locate it under your hood. There are usually two horns. Each has a wire leading to it. If your horn gets stuck, pull these wires to stop the noise (see Figure 20-2) — sometimes you have to pull only one. When you have the horn fixed, tell the mechanic that you pulled the wires and find out why the horn got stuck. (If you can't get at the horn wires, disconnect one battery terminal or pull the fuse that goes to the horn to stop the noise.) Figure 20-2: If your horn gets stuck, pull a wire to silence it. 928

However, the problem might be worn shock absorbers or struts, suspension ball joints, or broken stabilizer links (see Chapter 11). You may get used to the squeaks and groans, but they also indicate wear, because they're caused by parts rubbing together or moving without the proper lubrication. Obviously, action is called for. The following section may be of help. Many squeaks respond well to a lube job (see Chapter 16 for details on doing one yourself). If there is a persistent squeak under the vehicle, your mechanic may be able to install an additional grease fitting in the squeaky area at a low cost. Tweety Bird and other old Mustangs of her vintage were prone to squeaks in the A-frame under the front bumper. A grease fitting on each side of the upper control arm cured the sound effects quickly and cheaply. Smelts Ideally, other than that new-car smell, the only odors you should smell inside your vehicle should come from smelly things that you've put in it: the takeout lunch that you bought at a drive-through, the perfume that your 6-year-old squirted all over herself, your not-so-freshly groomed dog who's pressing his nose against your recently washed windows. You can get rid of persistent odors easily by using Febreze, a spray that eliminates odors rather than masking them. But if you smell any of the items in the following list, take Geo . Or your engine may be overheating, and your temperature gauge may be broken. If neither is the case, look around the engine for an oil leak that may be frying in the heat of the running engine. If the oil situation seems to be okay, check the transmission fluid dipstick. Sometimes a faulty vacuum modulator can siphon the fluid out of the transmission and feed it to the engine, where it's burned. Also, if the transmission fluid is very low, it can be burned in the transmission because the gears aren't lubricated enough and are getting very hot. V Do you smell oil or exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment? The cause could be burned oil from the engine area — but it could also be a faulty exhaust pipe under the car that lets exhaust gases get into the vehicle through the floorboards. Exhaust fumes are full of carbon monoxide, so if you smell oil or exhaust in the car, be sure to keep your windows open at all times and have the problem checked out as quickly as you can. We've all heard stories about people who have died on the highway from carbon monoxide or from passing out at the wheel because of it. Such stories are true.
